These students are typically unsupported in the classroom and rely on the ability of their teacher to notice and adjust – to notice the thinking gap between ideas expressed orally and adjust tasks, methods and approaches to ensure that evidence of ability appropriate achievement can be secured, despite current weaknesses in basic literacy skills
