2016 Australian Population and Housing Census - Field Officer Recruitment


The Australian Bureau of Statistics ABS is recruiting up to 800 dedicated and enthusiastic Field Officers from across Tasmania to ensure that every Tasmanian is counted in the 2016 Census that will occur on 9 August 2016.

These positions are integral to the success of the Census and the caliber of field staff the ABS recruits will have a direct impact on the quality of Census data. Ideal applicants will be great communicators, moderately tech-savvy, community minded and eager to make a difference. These positions are casual in nature and most of the work will occur during August and September.

Information about the Field Officer role is included below:
• Are casual positions, with flexible working hours
• Earn $21.61 per hour inclusive of 25% loading
• Must be comfortable using a computer, mobile or tablet device
• Will be responsible for making contact with households to make sure everyone can complete the Census.

The desired skills and experience required for the role includes:

• High levels of motivation, a positive attitude and reliability
• Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
• Reasonable level of fitness
• Ability to work independently in the field
• Moderately tech savvy.
