This is an opportunity for students to take part in a science-based competition. Students can participate as individuals or with a classmate. The competition is open to primary (1-6) and secondary (7-10) school students and all participants will receive a certificate. Tasmanian Alkaloids has kindly provided three $100 prizes for the best entries to allow winning students to purchase science equipment and books for their school.

Using a saturated solution of Alum, crystals are grown over a period of 2-5 weeks. Consequently it's important to begin your experiments early to allow time for your crystals to develop. With simple kitchen items students can grow their first seed crystal and then (with time and patience) watch it grow. The RACI (Tasmanian Branch) will supply Alum (potassium aluminium sulphate) to all schools upon registration. Alum can be safely posted. Entry form is attached.
