Intended Audience: All teachers and schools interested in education for sustainability

The Eco-Schools program is a proven schools based sustainability education program operating in more than 40 countries and more than 3500 schools globally. It is a program developed by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) based in Denmark and is partnered with UNESCO.

Eco-Schools is a curriculum linked, democratic and participatory program that provides an excellent opportunity for students to experience active citizenship in their schools. Both schools and the wider community benefit from this program.

The program involves a 7 step process that leads to schools being part of an international network of best practice schools globally, and working towards being awarded an Eco-Schools green flag.

Keep Australia Beautiful has acquired the license from FEE and is leading the Eco-Schools program in Australia. Nationally, there is currently a trial being conducted in New South Wales and the Northern Territory. The workshop we will be conducting is the beginning of the trial in Tasmania.

In Tasmania, we expect that Eco-Schools will complement our existing Sustainable Schools Awards program that has been conducted for many years. During the judging of this program, many schools have expressed interest in obtaining more information on how to become involved with Eco-Schools.

Additional information on the Eco-Schools program can be obtained on the Eco-Schools website and on the Keep Australia Beautiful website.

The workshop is to be held on 25 September from 3:15pm for a 3:30pm start. The workshop will be held at the Sustainable Learning Centre in Mt Nelson. Afternoon tea will be provided. For those who are interested and unable to attend in person, we will have 'Lync' available.
