Date: 6 to 9 February 2015
Location: Hobart

Intended Audience: All schools - but most interest usually from schools in Southern Tas.

MyState Australian Wooden Boat Festival organisers are calling for teams of three students to enter one of the perennial festival high-lights, the Quick 'n' Dirty Boat Building Challenge.

Three high schools have already entered teams and invitations have been sent to school principals from Dover to Triabunna. A teacher from each of the participating schools generally mentors their school team.
Participants don't need any prior boat building experience. The Quick 'n' Dirty boats are constructed of cane and canvas, in the style of an Irish 'currach', and organisers conduct workshops to train the teams well in advance of the frenetic building, decorating and the hilarious culmination of the 'Challenge' - the race around Constitution Dock under sail and paddle/oar.

The Quick 'n' Dirty Boat Building Challenge is staged in the Quick 'n' Dirty Arena in epicentre of the Wooden Boat Festival and, with thousands of spectators, teams exercise and develop their skills in design, confidence, practical construction, decoration, theming, boat-handling and team-work, under pressure.

There are prizes in the offing but the chief incentive is fun!
