At 11.00 pm on 4 August 1914, Britain declared war on Germany. As a result, Australia also entered the war, which would see many lives lost and many more injured.

To mark this occasion, the Tasmanian Government, in conjunction with the Tasmanian Council of Churches, has organised an Ecumenical Church Service which is open to the Tasmanian community to attend.

The service will be followed by a special bell ringing at 11.00 am to remember this significant day one hundred years ago.

Venue: St David's Cathedral, Murray Street, Hobart
