Dear Educators,

This year looks set to top last year's very successful grants round. In 2014 there are even more opportunities for you to receive funding for your brilliant National Science Week ideas. There is funding from the Australian government for grants of up to $500, with extra funding from Grains Research and Development Corporation for grants of up to $700 if they link in with the theme 'Foods for the future: Science feeding the world'. See details at the ASTA website.

As a result of this boost in funding, this year the National Science Week Schools Grants will likely be far more widely published, with more applications as a result. So get your thinking caps on and send in some awesome applications because we want Tasmania to continue to be one of the most creative states, retaining its share of the national funding pool.

PLUS, last year I was able to offer a $100 Birchalls book voucher, and CSIRO for a day in your school, for two lucky grants recipients. All they had to do was send in some thought from themselves or students, with a picture with permissions. STATIC (the STAT publication) then published a special edition with the National Science Week Schools as a feature! Who knows what may be on offer this year – watch this space….

I look forward to hearing from you and being able to fund some more great science events in Tasmania this year. If you have any queries please feel free to contact me.

Warm Regards,

Duncan Brain
