Diabetes in Schools Session

Do you have a child at your school with diabetes?

There may be a child new to your school with diabetes, or a child recently diagnosed with diabetes. If you haven't had recent education about diabetes, children and school, then this is the session for you!
2.5 hours 1.00 - 3.30

Areas covered include:
  • Diabetes, cause, diagnosis and management
  • The principles of a "diabetic diet"
  • What are ideal blood glucose levels and what affects them
  • How to prevent, identify and treat "Hypos" (low blood glucose levels)
  • How to identify and manage Hyperglycaemia (high blood glucose levels)
  • The effect of exercise, illness and stress on blood glucose levels and how to manage
  • Diabetes and "sick days"
  • Preparing for school excursions, camps and exams.
  • What to expect at different ages and stages
  • Your duty of care to students with diabetes
  • Developing a school management plan
  • Accessing the wide range of diabetes resources.
  • Equipment used to help manage diabetes.
