Intended Audience: Year 11and 12 Physics and Physical Sciences students, and some year 10 students.

Elisabetta Barberio, Professor of Physics at Melbourne University, and internationally recognised particle physicist will be presenting a 2013 Australian Institute of Physics (AIP) Women in Physics lecture at Elizabeth College on 22 August. Professor Barberio is part of the ATLAS team at the Large Hadron Collider and was involved in the discovery of the Higgs Boson. Her work has helped verify key aspects of the Standard Model of matter.

Elisabetta has said "The recent discovery of the Higgs [Boson] has really inspired people to engage with physics. We need to funnel this excitement and encourage young women to see the kinds of things they can achieve."
This enthusiasm can also be inspirational to boys who may not necessarily have thought of studies in this area.

The lecture is from 2pm - 3pm at Undercroft, Elizabeth College. Students need to be seated by 1.50 pm.
