Turn a Hobby into a Career - Jewellery Making

Contact: Rosny LINC
Location: Rosny LINC
Date of Event: 6 September 2013

Intended Audience: anyone wishing to learn

Come along and see Jan Barker and learn about Jewellery making. Jan graduated from Alexander Mackie College of the Arts in Sydney with majors in painting and sculpture. After a few years of teaching art and trying to be creative in spare moments, Jan discovered jewellery making through an evening course - and was hooked.

Jan's creativity found a way to combine shapes, textures and colours in pieces of portable, wearable art.
After relocating to Tasmania, Jan studied jewellery making at TAFE Tasmania, one of her tutors being the award winning Phil Mason, who also employed her as his trainee for 18 months. Jan has been making and selling jewellery in Tasmania since 2000 and teaching classes since 2004.

In this session, Jan will show you some of the amazing pieces of jewellery made from metal including examples of pendants, earrings and cuff bracelet that can be made in her Beginners Class. Jan will demonstrate some of the tools and their use, and inspire you to learn more in our LearnXPress classes.

This session commences at 2pm and will run for approximately an hour.
