Simon Pampena Visits Tasmania During National Science Week

Contact: National Science Week

Location: Devonport & Hobart
Date of Events: 8 & 9 August 2013

Intended Audience: Students & families

Simon Pampena is Australia's leading maths communicator. He has been Australian Numeracy Ambassador from 2009 along with writing and performing maths comedy shows for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Edinburgh International Science Festival and ABC1's Catalyst program.

Simon will be in Tasmania from 8 - 9 August and, as well as visiting local schools, will be giving FREE performances of the maths comedy show "Mathemania" in Devonport and Hobart for general audiences.

MATHEMANIA HAS BROKEN LOOSE! Equations have broken through the ivory towers of academia to infect every part of our daily lives. Banking, betting and betrothing now have maths in their DNA... and you're next. Your only hope against the epidemic is 50mins of understanding delivered by standup mathematician Simon Pampena, who finds the whole situation hilarious... as will you!

"I use maths to drive my comedy, but who's to say that the opposite won't happen? In the future one of my jokes may become the basis of a new mathematical theorem. That would be awesome!", says Simon.
