Make Australian Schools Care Aware

Contact: Care Aware

Intended Audience: All schools Principals, SEOs, teachers and counsellors

There are more than 300,000 young carers in Australia. Chances are there are at least two young carers in every classroom. Care Aware aims to raise awareness of the 2.6 million Australians who wake up every day to care for someone. This is an important initiative under the Australian Government’s National Carer Strategy.

How can you help?Young carers report teachers can have a hugely positive impact on their lives by just being aware of and understanding their caring situations. Making teachers and teaching staff aware of young carers in the classroom and how their caring role might impact the student’s studies, social interactions and development is important to ensure they get the most of their education.

Email us for free information kits with more information on primary and secondary school aged young carers, and the role schools and teaching professionals can play in supporting these students.

Care Aware WorkplacesWe’d also like you to take the time to consider your colleagues and the role of caring in your workplace. The Care Aware Workplaces initiative aims to improve workplace arrangements for unpaid family carers.
